Donatella Versace Looking For Versace Heir

Donatella Versace has revealed she is looking for a designer to replace her.

Speaking at the London College of Fashion Donatella revealed: "I am working with young designers and yes, I am looking for The One to take over the Versace brand."

"Christopher (Kane) is my favorite designer," Donatella, went on.

"He and Tammy remind me so much of me and Gianni - brother and sister, working together."

Versace to Design For - The Spice Girls?

It has been reported that Donatella Versace may be designing costumes for the recently-reunited Spice Girls. She has already submitted $400,000 worth of designs for the pop-rock group, suggesting that this will be the ultimate makeover!

The Glamorous Life notes: "We know if Versace is the designer then sexy is the look. The famous rock star clothing fashion designer wants to give the ladies a sexy grown woman look. A little spicier than their previous somewhat girlish image."

Donatella's "HiT" Handbag

As Christopher Kane, Mulberry, and Balenciaga among others present their “hit” handbags for the season, Donatella Versace had the urge to present hers. But Donatella’s isn’t just like any other “hit” handbag, hers has literally been named “hit” and presents a dashing aesthetic that I’m curious to know if it would be accepted if it were from a low-end label - being precisely the same.

Donatella’s “hit” handbag is offered in four versions, including mesh metal nappa fur, patent leather, calf lamé and mirror leather, and fox fur Fall - being the last one the most flamboyant one. The prices range from $2,330 to $5,120, but they still aren’t that high. I would have thought that Versace’s “Hit” hangbag would have retailed for a relevantly higher sum; why? Because this is the year on which she has re-built the company’s lost prestige and because she made a huge fuss about it, including an exclusive ceremony just for the announcement of this bag and a jet-set party during New York Fashion Week where SHE will be personally presenting the new bag.

As Fashion Week Daily Reports, the roomy hexagonal-shaped carryalls will be available in the six eye-catching shades of silver, bright blue, red, true white, camel, and black. Which would I chose? Certainly the black one. It’s the only one which doesn’t ooze tackiness.

Scandal Behind the Scenes At Versace?

Fashionologie reports on a comment she found on the popular Fashion/celebrity blog Jezebel. Apparently, there may have been some cheating and some scandal behind the scenes at Versace -- this is all unconfirmed, of course, but interesting to ponder for a minute, all the same:

"I remember an interesting bit of gossip I heard, when I was at W magazine: Donatella's husband at the time, Paul Beck - a gorgeous former male model - was actually Gianni's lover.

For years, Gianni wanted a child and heir. He and Paul couldn't make *that* happen. So, he brokered the marriage between his sister and lover, which produced Allegra and her brother - can't think of his name...and viola! Instant heirs.

Whenever they came into the office, it was always the happy threesome...Donatella coked out of her mind, in a leopard catsuit unzipped to her navel, gold stilettos, white'ish blonde hair and Vuitton bag tan - Paul in distressed button-fly jeans, and a plaid flanel shirt with the sleeves artfully ripped off - and Gianni, smiling, impeccably well put together and warm. Wow...that was a long time ago - but, good memories!"

Versace's nice blue suit (Spring-Summer 2008 menswear)

I usually despise everything that Donatella Versace elaborates, it’s too flamboyant for me. And this season is no exception. But since Alexandre Plokhov was named one of Versace’s main consultants, a certain change on the label’s style - regarding menswear - is visible. It seems like as if Donatella is trying harder to conceive a nice respectable collection.

This season, surprisingly, I found an outfit that I liked. From my point view, it was the only one which strikingly captivated the eye of those who attended Versace’s runway show. It’s a suit, a rather classical one, and it’s blue - creamy blue. Maybe, I don’t like it as much as I believe, and the only thing I’m deeply attracted to is to the amazing resemblance to Adam Kimmel’s all-cotton blue suits that it presents - being Adam Kimmel a designer which I absolutely like.

The one thing I like for sure, is that it fits like an Italian suit and that the shoulders certainly prove it, but it doesn’t look like a typical Italian design - less passion, more refinement. That’s what I like.
