Liya Kebede To Launch New Clothing Line

Supermodel Liya Kebede is about to become the latest celebrity/model to add "designer" to her resume. Kebede has announced that she will release a collection of children's clothes in the spring. Her new line will be called "Lemlem", which FWD reports "means “to bloom” in Amharic, a Semitic language from Kebede’s native Ethiopia."

Although she is just one of dozens of other celebrity designers lately, there is one thing that sets Kebede's clothing line apart from the others. All the children's clothes will be handmade in Ethiopia, which means the clothes will incorporate some elements from traditional Ethiopian clothing for a fresh look that (hopefully) won't be like everything else on the market already.

Liya Kebede is the face of Estee Lauder. She has also been noted for her charitable work through the World Health Organization (for which she is a goodwill ambassador) and for setting up the Liya Kebede Foundation to reduce maternal, newborn, and child mortality.

Rihanna is Designing Umbrellas

They say that in this day and age, with the wild success of the blogosphere, anyone can be a writer and get themselves published. Well, it seems like today in Hollywood anyone can make themselves a designer, albeit some have far less success than others. Perez Hilton is reporting that R&B/hiphop singer Rihanna has jumped the celebrity designer bandwagon too (sadly, I've lost count of how many times I've said that phrased in recent months) and is designing her own line of designer....umbrellas!

Yeah...I don't even know what to say. Except: don't shell out your money for an umbrellas from this line just because it says Rihanna on it.

Jessica Simpson Launches Swimwear Line

On Saturday in Miami, Jessica Simpson launched her new swimwear collection.

“The inspiration for this show is me,” Simpson told Fashion Week Daily. “The Jessica Simpson look is definitely all-American chic. There are some girlish, fun, flirty things that you will see on the runway tonight. But there is no reason a woman cannot be cute, beautiful, pretty, chic, and bohemian,” she said. “There is no reason we can’t be everything.”

Present at the show were Simpson's mother, hairstylist Ken Paves, Kim Kardashian, Jamie Lynn Sigler, Scott Sartiano, and even Dennis Rodman who showed up for the afterparty at Skybar.

Tina Knowles Is Designing? For Other People

Oh man...I'm tired of reporting about celebrity designers, but this one is too ridiculous to miss. Tina Knowles, who has previously made herself famous 'designering' for her daughter Beyonce, has now decided to design her own line of clothing. And it will be targeted at the "forgotten woman"...whoever that is. Let's hope her clothes become quickly forgotten also.

All I have to say is: this is a bad, bad idea. After all, Tina Knowles is the woman who once designed and dressed her daughter in this:

Enough said.

Another Glimpse of Twenty8Twelve

I'm not sure if Twenty8Twelve can be really be that different and distinguishable from every other celebrity clothing line popping up on the market these days, but they claim it's different because Sienna Miller is a fashion icon (though I beg to differ), and her sister is supposedly a designer. The following are some pictures of the line from Vogue, which I just got a hold of thanks to GirlsTalkinSmack.com.
