Fashion and PoliticsSubmitted by Stavros on Thu, 2007-06-14 02:05.Have you ever wanted to know which designer is a dear contributor of a political party?and what about how much money they've given away? Well, I have always wanted to know, and I'm proud to say I found it on the internet. Well, the search wasn't that difficult, since a website called Newsmeat is offering this information to anyone who dares to ask these sort of questions. The first name I entered was Adam Kimmel. His style aesthetics amuse me, so I thought it would be nice to begin my delightful little search by knowing how much he gave away. $800 dollars was the proper answer, and it was last year when someone by the name of David Harris - from the republican party - was running for congress. Second in my search was Michael Kors. He attends so many New York events and galas, I figured that he has to be linked to some political party - who knows, maybe both ways, I thought. But, I was wrong. He only contributed with Democrats back in the old days, when John Kerry was running for president, with the mere sum of $ 2000. And I kept searching for other fashion socialites. Next stop: Mr. Ralph Lauren - and that is when I literally shocked. The CFDA award winning designer, donated around $55k in the past few years. A minuscule share of that money was sent to the Republicans, while all the rest was for the Democrats and their various campaigns and other events of personal interest. The list of renamed people who contributed in someway with a political party is vast and profound. These three fashion socialites caught my attention, so I opted to share this information with you. Please do enjoy. |
Adam Kimmel: New Yorker meets old Italian immigrantSubmitted by Stavros on Sat, 2007-06-02 00:33.
With the elegant American simplicity he is known for, Adam Kimmel added a sparkle of Italian charm to the conceptual aesthetic on which he has been basing his past designs. Something like "New Yorker meets Italian immigrant" would be perfect to describe such combination of styles. With some preppy thing going on as well, Adam's lookbook conceives the idea of ambient discretion and, unlike others who pursue the flashy-flashy scenarios, it compliments the entire vibe Adam is aiming for. From cashmere to common wool canvas, Adam plays with the idea of luxe Vs. "poor" like ordinary - which is everything, but typical. An idea sometimes confusing for the first time spectator, but with amusing artistic results. Adam is man who elaborates for the simple man; and because he is a simple man himself, he does it with quality and style. |
