Nom de Guerre: wartime sophisticationSubmitted by Stavros on Wed, 2007-06-06 00:26.Nom de Guerre is one of those labels that you pray to find someday. You may ask why, and the answer lacks of complexity: Nom de Guerre is the result of the combined talent of four gifted designers, who base their garments on the collective principle, and whose glorious perception of style magnificently opposes to the modern mode concept we are used to experiment with. Holly Harnsongkram, Wil Whitney, Devon Turnbull, and Isa Saalabi are the four impressive designers that execute the collective concept. Such concept, is to combine basic and diverse influences from art, fashion, and various New York subcultures to create a composite culture and product. They say to also be influenced by the impressionists, France, and remote explorers; but an immense reminiscence of wartime-America appears in many outfits. The hats and the trench coats, take me back in time. It's an emotional collection that evokes the prominent style of timeless sophistication. I'm a person whose influences in fashion are vast. I usually dress myself "hip-ly" - kind of a Dior Homme by Hedi sometimes meets colors and they all hang out in Stockholm -, but I have a great appreciation for labels like this. The melancholic mood and ambient of such a menswear line, produces a great deal of thoughts in my mind - something I happen to adore. |
