Music and fashion have always been related. They are as well the two basic “things” that characterize an epoch - imagine the 80s without white jackets and Mtv, impossible right? So when one label or designer feels inspired by music and decides to design something connected to that scene, fashionistas contently celebrate. And most of the times that’s the right thing to do. But now Gina Alexander, a Hollywood based designer whose clientele include several A-list celebrities, has presented her own music related accessories, and I hardly think that we should be celebrating.
In spite of being a well-known designer from Hollywood land, I don’t exactly think that his latest work is up to her standards. Gina’s most recent line evokes the spirit of great music legend Jimi Hendrix and honor him deeply. From jackets to handbags, the accessories designer portrays an iconic Jimi Hendrix item or himself in every of her pieces. Some of them are merely good, they are colorful and popish, but that’s about it.
With this tribute collection Gina tries to remind the people of how great the guitar player was. It’s all part of a massive campaign lead in collaboration with Janie Hendrix - sister of the rock legend himself. Gina told Billboard magazine that they were trying to give the Jimi Hendrix name something stylish and couture and not just other t-shirt - yes, that’s right: couture. I wonder what on earth she meant by couture, because that’s far away of being vogue and well-crafted.
