I really admire Naomi Campbell. Stop laughing. I know we are supposed be doing the whole world hates Naomi thing but I’m not a willing party. I’ve heard she can lose her temper at times and perhaps her time keeping can leave a lot to be desired but does that make her a bad person? Even with her well documented problems the fashion industry still worship at the altar of Kate Moss and my girl Naomi can’t even get a Vogue cover.

Roisin RocksSubmitted by addyads on Mon, 2007-09-24 21:46.Roisin Murphy, the soulful chanteuse from Ireland but was nurtured in the dance music scene of mad Manchester, U.K in the nineties. After 11yrs of writing, producing and touring as part of Moloko, a jazz funk/dance band Roisin began work on a solo project with electronica mastermind, Matthew Herbert in 2004. 'Ruby Blue' was released in Summer 2005 and it didn't sell commercially well. Those who are were hip to their Agyness Dean and Paper Magazine were feeling it. She is all things exceptional but first and foremost though, she was especially created to bring the funk. Girl has so much funk that no one actually buys her records. Not that it matters. Ms Murphy sings lyrics like 'chromosomes, oxytoxins, and "alien feelings we have to accept' seem wonderful and clearly bizarre. Not only that, she diva baby. Rocking Viviene Westwood to her local fish & chip shop and feted by the likes of Viktor & Rolf. Only the discerning fashion maestros need apply when wanting to dress Ms Murphy. Viviene Westwood had Roisin represent her in the 2005 UK 'Fashion Rocks' ceremony by dressing her for an excellent stage performance. She is beautiful without being intimidating, sexy without being slutty and regal without being scary (well maybe just a little) and she brings a little crazy to the mix too. The new album 'Overpowered' is a masterpiece set to futuristic synth dance beats with a unique soulful twist. When she premiered one of her live performaces to promote the new album at London club Boombox(a place that fashionista Gareth Pugh calls home) earlier this summer, she tore the place up in a sculpted black Zac Posen number and top hat. Just because the lady is dressed by the best, does she really know anything about the stellar players in fashion? In an interview with the London Telegraph in 2005 she name checked 'it' boy Giles Deacon as a favourite. She goes onto say that 'I like clothes that can be worn by a mother and a daughter, that walk that tightrope. I also love Jonathan Saunders because I think he's a real technician and a genius with print'. What sets her apart and makes her a true dizzying blonde as opposed to dizzy blonde is the fact she said that her best beauty tip is 'to be in love'. Now that's overpowering. |
