Now I know I’m not the first person to wax lyrical about the brilliance and fabulousness of Carine Roitfield. The doyenne editor of French vogue plays many roles in her life to maximization. She’s the party girl, the mother, the model, the advertising exec and full time sexy bitch. She has recently been snapped up to bring the ‘zexy’ to ‘Vogue Hommes International’ magazine. The Roifield stamp is much needed on this particular fashion mag. As male fashion is so hard to market and if anybody can turn its fortunes around it is going to Carine. She who was and still is muse to Tom Ford, she is best creative and personal friend of Mario Testino and purveyor of all things cool. Vogue Hommes is safe in a very elegant pair of hands. Carine being of Russian and French extraction exudes all the type of traits one thinks of when you consider her background. An intelligent and intense Russian filmmaker father and mother who of course was a beauty but a very classic French one raised her. The intensity in Carine’s eyes is so much so that one cannot believe that at the start of her career when she was scouted (like, you didn’t know she would be) her modelling success was mediocre to say the least. It was her hard assed edgy approach to advertising that took the Tom Ford era of Gucci in the Nineties to the insane level of success and duration it enjoyed and is still respected for. It was Carine’s fine eye for the hotness with a touch of rock and roll, sprinkled with mind-blowing glamour and raw fire coupled with Testino’s fantastic vision that helped made it happen. She is loved and respected by her peers. She is flirty and funny. She gives good interview. She is elegant and punk. Refined and rough around the edges. She is fifty something years old and is a million more times luscious than her twenty something year old daughter, sometime model Julia. Do you get the feeling I’m a fan? I am and so are you. How could you not be?
