Everyone's getting tired of hearing about actresses and celebrities releasing their own clothing lines. So from the land of the glamorous comes a new take on the celebrity designers trend: a model is releasing her own cosmetics line. Model Josie Maran, who has walked runways for years and recently became famous for starring in the ad campaigns of Maybelline, is doing just that. But her line promises it has one feature that makes it stand out from the other cosmetic companies -- everything is organic and environmentally friendly.
Women's Wear Daily reports: "Come September she will launch her organic beauty brand....Josie Maran Cosmetics. Her goal? To brighten your complexion with natural, toxic-free cosmetics. The child of bohemian artists, Maran grew up in San Francisco and learned at an early age how to be environmentally conscious. "Being green was part of my upbringing," she said. "(Yet) many natural lines don't give you that color payoff." By combining her knowledge of cosmetics as a model with her green focus, Maran has developed exactly what she was looking for in a makeup line: chic and luxurious products made from pure, natural formulas."
Items in the collection will range from $16-42 and are available at Barney's and josiemarancosmetics.com. Products are made with organic, gentle ingredients free of toxins, and packaging is biodegradable and made from recycled materials.
I think Maran has a good idea here and her line has potential to be popular. I just hope that we don't start seeing every other model out there decide to copy her and release their own makeup line, like we've seen with actresses doing clothing lines. If Maran is unique in her endeavor, people won't get sick of it. But I am sure that inevitably, if she has any success at all, we will see plenty of copycats...
