Fashion is getting weirder, hipper, dizzier, and way more fun by the minute. Neon colors, frenetic patterns, and video game-like styles are becoming a hot new "under-g." trend at a booming rate. There are many who are inspired or influenced by this artsy movement - Zoltar the Magnificent among others - but there is only one label which really understands the concept, and mainly because it was the first one to expose it, and that is: Cassette Playa.
Ohhh!, I absolutely love it - and I've just found out about this label a few weeks ago. It's not the garments I'm fond of, but its culture. I adore the way it thinks - yes, "it" - and the concept it presents. Raves played a huge part in its creative director, Carri Munden, and so did video games (or at least it seems like). Her designs are so way out of this world that she is often asked how much drugs is she into. And that's one of the axis on which this label stands.
Hallucinogenic designs that amuse the mind just like "Lucy" would do with her diamonds, provoke an spectacular effect on the intrepid shopper. Cassette Playa is about your senses being overloaded. It refers to the drug culture, raves and psychedelia, and pursues to recreate that experience without actually "consuming" something.
The label is growing steadily and it's receiving the support of many talent artists such as Gareth Pugh - former classmate of Carri - as well as the crazy kids from London, and the always dear Japaneses.
Start writing your thoughts - I want to know what you think.
