Alberta Ferretti's new Resort 2008 collection is a line for the country-clubbing, cocktail-sipping, golf-playing, preppy sophisticate inside us all. Many of the pieces are menswear-inspired, featuring lots of tweed, mens-style button-downs, belts, and preppy striped tops. Pleated skirts, belted waists, and drop-waist dresses are also some of Ferretti's favorite choices. The line is classic and clean, full of designs perfect for Upper East Side princesses on vacation in the Hamptons. More conservative and less bold than some of her younger counterparts, Ferretti's designs are effortlessly chic and classic. I've long felt that Alberta Ferretti is an underrated designer whose work does not get the attention it truly deserves, and this collection is a group of designs that emanate quiet sophistication. On her resort collection, Ferretti noted that "It’s a mix of the ‘80s and ‘20s together, but at the same time [for] a real woman in the real world today: strong, dynamic, modern."
