Robin Givhan, fashion editor for the Washington Post, is quickly rising to fame. At this year's CFDAs, she will be honored with the Eugenia Sheppard Award. She has also previously won a Pulitzer for criticism, for her "witty, closely observed essays that transform fashion criticism into cultural criticism." She is without a doubt one of the fashion industry's most prominent and celebrated journalists, and it's about time the Council of Fashion Designers of America took notice. While most fashion journalists predict trends and comment on designers and ad campaigns, Robin Givhan offers some truly insightful commentary, on everything from the "Poiret: King of Fashion" exhibit [1] to whether vanity is acceptable for politicians [2]. Her commentary goes far beyond the clothes and examines the impact of fashion on society, and is always thought-provoking. If you haven't been reading Robin Givhan's fashion commentary at the Washington Post yet, start now. To me, there isn't anyone who deserves the Eugenia Sheppard Award any more than Robin Givhan!
In an interview with FWD, she offers her wise decision on what to wear to the CFDA Awards: "I will be wearing a gown that I can afford, but if I was really brave I would walk on that stage wearing a dress that cost more than my monthly mortgageāand that I was planning to return the morning after the awards!"
