Marc Jacobs began his career while he was still a student at Parsons School of Design.

At Parsons, Jacobs won the Perry Ellis Gold Thimble Award in 1984, and in the same year was also awarded the Chester Weinberg Gold Thimble Award and the Design Student of the Year Award.

While still at Parsons, Jacobs designed and sold his first line of hand knit sweaters. In 1984, Jacobs formed his partnership with Robert Duffy, Jacobs Duffy Designs Inc., which continues to this day.

In 1995, the first Marc Jacobs store opened in New York's Soho district. Since that time, the retail network has expanded to include stores in cities worldwide, specializing in women's and men's fashions, leather goods, shoes, and perfume. The company continues to expand while maintaining its dedication to quality and a genuine love for fashion
