Imagine that you are a recently graduated designer, a really good one, whose career is just about to begin. As you leave your school for ever, you are selected to present your work at the Fashion Graduate Week in London. You’re super excited and you eager to exhibit your “flamboyant” collection. Then, you are chosen by Selfridges as one of the best designers of the event and they decide to acquire 20 of your best pieces for their Oxford flagship store, and guess what? They agree to give you the full retail price of any garments Selfridges sell on your behalf…how amazing is that? Almost surreal, isn’t it?
Well, for Jasper Chadprajong is nothing but the truth. He won the prestigious River Island Gold Award and was given the chance to place some of his most exquisite items for sale at the Selfridges’ multi-level store in London. Selfridges will be staging a “pop-up shop” featuring his work which is set to sit within the ‘contemporary and spirit’ department.
An excited Jasper said: “To have a chance to be part of something this big is very exciting,” he continued. “I look forward to seeing my work in one of my favorite shops and even more excitingly, knowing that someone might actually buy one of my outfits.”
Perushka DeZoysa, Selfridges' buying manager for women's contemporary, is also thrilled about the new partnership. "The idea of the pop-up shop is to give fashion students the opportunity to experience one of the most exciting and competitive retail environments in the UK, while offering our customers unique pieces from young British designers they will not have heard of - yet, at least."
